Douglass, Jay C., was born in Clinton county, N. Y., February 7, 1856, a son of Elijah W. and Harriet A. (Allen) Douglass. Elijah Douglass was born in Washington county, and his wife in Clinton county; they came to Wilson in 1865, where he bought fifty acres of land and lived until his death, which occurred in 1896; his wife died in 1889. Jay C. Douglass was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools; he is a farmer and has fifty acres of land where he lives. The paternal grandfather, Congdon Douglass, lived and died in Clinton county; he was justice in the town of Beakman several years and a member of the Baptist church. Mr. Douglass has a brother, Weaver M., who is also a farmer and a Republican.
