1897 Biography - John Albert

Albert, John, was born at Buffalo, N. Y., March 26, 1844, a son of the late John Albert, a manufacturer of boots and shoes. He attended a private school at Buffalo and at the age of thirteen began learning the trade of his father. In 1875 he removed to La Salle, where he bought out the interest of his wife's father in the Cayuga Hotel, of which he remained proprietor until 1893, at which time he practically retired from business. May 4, 1871, he married Catherine S. Wattengel of La Salle, and they have one son, Victor A. Mr. Albert has always been prominent in the public affairs of La Salle, holding the office of school trustee for three years and is now a justice of the peace, elected in 1895, for a term of four years. In politics he always has been an ardent Republican. He is a charter member of Niagara Lodge No. 17, A. O. U. W.
