I am searching for the CAMP families that were living in Niagara County in 1809. My g g grandfather was Seth Keeler CAMP, records show he was born July 1809, Buffalo Trail Rd., Camptown, or Hanburg, Niagara Co., NY. I have not been able to locate either of these towns in your county, know there was or is a Hamburg in Erie Co., where they later moved. I am looking for the family of JAMES CAMPBELL and SUSAN, SUSANNA SLOAN. They were married in Cherry Valley, NY., and removed to the town of Niagra. They had a large family, one of whom was JAMES CAMPBELL who married DEBORAH HOVEY and removed to the town of Seneca, NY. They must have moved to Niagra, somewhere around the early 1800's. CASS

I am looking for the burial place and date for Aaron CASS. Aaron was born 25 Dec 1761 in Kent, CT, fought in the Revolutionary war ( he was a private in Capt. David Olmsted's Company, having arrived in camp on 3 June 1778), and died while standing in for his son Josiah in the War of 1812. He died while crossing the Niagara River in Oct 1812 at the Battle of Queenston Heights - he was in the Dryden company of the Cayuga County regiment. My ancestor, William CHANDLER, was supposedly born in Genesee County, NY in 1817; however, he may have a Niagara County, NY connection through Felix and Comfort HOLDRIDGE, who were taking care of Chandler's daughter, Caroline, in 1850 in Lenawee County, MI. I have a dictionary inscribed "Feliz Holdridge, October 14, 1827, Royalton, Neagara, New York". I would be interested in hearing from people researching these surnames in Niagara County. Am looking for information of an immigrant great grandfather, Anthony A. CLARK, who settled near the Niagara-Youngstown-Wilson area. He had a son,Herman H. who maried Lucy M. Irish of Raus..ville (Ransomville), New York on 7 July,1895 at Wilson, New York. Herman lived for sometime in Youngstown, N.Y. Anthony A. might have been an immigrant from Ireland/Scotland in the mid1800's. One other brother of Herman's might have been Chatford CLARK. I am looking for information on my great grandfather and his family: James Nasmith CLEGHORN, born Nov. 22, 1850 or 1852 in Suspension Bridge or Lewiston NY. Father was James CLEGHORN and mother Katherine whose last name was possibly NAISMITH or DE POTAY (or similar spelling). Had a brother Jessie CLEGHORN and sisters, Mary CLEGHORN WILLIS and Elizabeth CLEGHORN WOLFORD. The elder James CLEGHORN became a widower and married Hannah E. PROUD on May 22 1858 in LaPort Co., IN. Jessie CLEGHORN was born of this marriage in April of 1859. James Naismith CLEGHORN was a pioneer settler in Alaska working for the Alaska Commercial Co. both before and after the turn of the century. He married and raised a large family in Alaska. CONNOR

I am looking for information on my GGG-grandparents CONNOR, Patrick and Mary. According to the 1860 Federal Census, Patrick and Mary lived in Pendleton, Niagara County, New York. They were both born in Ireland. Patrick was 40 years old and Mary was 37 year old in 1860. They had four daughters who were born in St. Johns New Foundland. Their names and ages in 1860 were: Margaret, 17 years old; Ann, 14 years old; Mary, 9 years old; and Johanna, 7 years old. They had a son, born in Canada, by the name of James, 5 years old. They also had a daughter and son, born in New York State, named Bridget, 3 years old; and Martin, 8 months old. Update to query posted Tues May 12, 1998 The CONNOR family from Pendelton, New York: Patrick was married to Mary DALTON. They were both born in Ireland, according to the 1860 federal census. Their oldest daughter Margaret CONNOR married a Michael J. RILEY from Lockport, NY. Michael RILEY died on October 25, 1892, and his wife died on June 3, 1914. Michael and Margaret had seven children. Their names were Anna l., John., William L., Mary G., Charles., Charles o., Michael J. and Daniel E. Their other daughter Mary CONNOR married a Dan T. MCCARTHY from Lockport, NY. They had two daughters Mary and Jennie. Also according to the 1870 Federal Census, Patrick and Mary had another son born in 1863 by the name of Patrick Jr. - Tues., June 16, 1998 - sent in by: Michael Morrissey


COOLEY

Samuel COOLEY received land patents for Macomb County, MI. His first in 1833 stated he was from Niagara County, NY. Several other COOLEYs were listed in the land patents as well...Benjamin, Charles, Jonathan, Noah, Rodney and William. I believe Benjamin, Jonathan and William are Samuel's sons (they all received land patents 9 Oct 1835, but their's stated they were from Macomb County). I know for certain he had a son Levi. Looking for Maria COTTON wife of ALVAH SHELDON. Maria born Oct 6, 1801 Berkshire Co MA died after Jul 1860 Richland County OH married Alvah SHELDON about 1824/25 NY prob Monroe County. Alvah born Aug 17 1799 VT; died September 1858 Richland County, OH. Children: Nathan born about 1830 near Rochester, NY; Thomas born about 1832 near Rochester, NY; Emma R. born September 20, 1835 Lockport, NY; Mary (Polly) born about 1841 Niagara Co, NY; William born about 1842 Niagara Co, NY; Francis born about 1845 Niagara Co, NY; and Sarah born about 1847 Niagara Co, NY. Maria COTTON emigrated with her uncle from MA to Penfield, NY about 1824/5. She married SHELDON and remained near Rochester for 12 years. They moved to Royalton, Niagara County, NY about 1836/7 and stayed there about 19 years. About 1854 they emigrated to New Philadephia, Crawford Co, OH and lived there 3 years. I am searching for birth and marriage information regarding Lester E. CROSS, SR. and his wife Elma or Alma Sloane. Both are said to be New York natives. Lester E. Cross, Sr. was admitted to the bar in the State of NY. On March 24, 1842 their eldest son Lester E. Cross, Jr., was born in Lockport, NY. In 1845 Samuel was born. In 1848 the Cross family left Lockport for the State of Michigan and remained there until 1876. Upon his retirement he moved to Stockton, CA. DELEVAN

About 1862 John Delevan had a daughter, Corintha Delevan in the County of Niagra. His wife's name is Phoebe. These Delevan's did not stay long in Niagra County as a daughter was born in Wayne County in 1864. I would estimate that they were in this area from after the 1860 census to the summer of 1864. My very Irish DEVLIN gg grandfather, Dennis (b.1857) died in 1914 in Buffalo. He lived most of his adult life in Niagara either in Canada or the U. S. I'm looking for information on Joseph Fredrick DUNNING and Fannie SCHOLFIELD. Joseph was born March 15, 1854 and died December 10, 1917 in Wheeling, WV. Fannie was born in Lockport, NY, February 14, 1860 and Fannie and Joseph were married in Lockport on June 08, 1880. Fannie died in Niagara Falls, NY, on August 23, 1912. They had five children: Fred was a manager for the telephone company; Joe was a chemist for DuPont; Don was gassed in WWI; consequently, he spent most of his time in Fairmont, WV. Don married a Margaret. Mildred married a James ALLEN; and Norma Leslie (my grandmother) married Walter Hardman WOLFE. Any information would be appreciated. I am looking for information regarding the family of Jeremiah DYER and his wife Mary Jane (Smith) Dyer. They were married in New Berlin, Chenango County (NY) in 1806. They moved to Jefferson County (NY) during the War of 1812, then to Lewiston, Ransomville, and finally, by the mid 1820s to Lockport. They are both buried in Cold Springs Cemetery. I am looking particularly for Mary Jane Dyer's parents, James Smith and Catherine (Southard) Smith.
